The fact that the country produces more university graduates than can
find work leads to dissatisfaction among young people and enhances their
readiness to migrate under the economic conditions prevailing. This is an
option which as a rule young educated women cannot avail themselves
of, unless they migrate with their families or marry men who already live
abroad.
• Standards of education offered in Egyptian universities have deteriorated
during recent years. There are too many students and inadequate finance.
Corruption is rife here, too, so that sometimes university professors who,
like their colleagues in state schools, receive low salaries are open to
bribery.
