and Sharia law could be achieved politically, thereby gaining
cultural control of society. According to the Muslim Brother-
hood, daily life must play a very important role in the devel-
opment of an Islamic nation. In recent years, the Muslim
Brotherhood has gained strength, especially after the 2005
elections in which it captured key seats in Parliament. Their
victory was also coincidental with the Hamas victory in Pales-
tine. Since then, a pan-Islamic relationship between the Mus-
lim Brotherhood and Hamas has been growing. The Muslim
Brotherhood has a strict hierarchy and a statelike structure, in
which the “president” is the leader.
