recounting the actors’ latest tribulations is a favorite topic of
conversation. Educated Egyptians are avid readers, and Egypt
boasts some of the Arab world’s greatest writers. These include
Naguib Mahfouz, a Nobel prizewinner whose translated works
can be found in most bookstores in the United States.
